Luxury Behind Bars

The Bodmin Jail Hotel is a rare case where the room category starts with a crime scene. Built inside a former 18th-century prison on the edge of Bodmin Moor, giving the stay a setting few luxury hotels can replicate. The building has held prisoners, public executions and centuries of Cornish criminal history, and that past remains central to the hotel experience.

The clearest reminder of the building’s past is the room design. Each bedroom is created from three former cells, retaining the original scale of the jail while adding proper hotel comfort, including freestanding baths, rainfall showers, Egyptian cotton and Noble Isle amenities..

The experience extends beyond the room. Guests can visit the Bodmin Jail attraction, explore the building’s history through guided tours, then continue into the Chapel Restaurant & Bar or the Jolly Hangman Tavern, two dining spaces that keep the hotel rooted in the original jail.
