Sloane Place

Soviet Baubles, Vintage Embroidery and a Stay at Sloane Place

Soviet Christmas decorations are an unexpected find on Lower Sloane Street. They’re among the pieces Alexandra Tolstoy has chosen for her Christmas Fair at The Sloane Club on 17 November. The writer and adventurer brings vintage sellers together with independent makers, offering a chance to buy Ukrainian embroidery and hand-sewn patchwork waistcoats in Chelsea.

Guests at neighbouring Sloane Place can browse the fair at LILA from 9am to 8pm. Non-members are welcome, with entry costing £5. Tolstoy’s selection includes antique silk lampshades and tailored Harris Tweed coats, so Christmas presents may have some competition from purchases for the buyer. It’s an opportunity to see the fabrics and examine the workmanship before deciding what comes home and who gets to keep it.
