A Nordic break can leave you rested. Two weeks in Oslo might also leave you speaking a little Norwegian. The city gives those new words a life outside the classroom: the restaurants at Aker Brygge, the galleries of MUNCH and the menus you can begin to read for yourself. The Opera House may still be the photograph you show everyone at home, but it won’t be the only thing you remember.
By the second week, you might understand enough Norwegian to choose lunch from the menu and follow a caption at a museum. Small things, perhaps, but satisfying when you learnt the words yourself.
For anyone curious enough to try, Alfaskolen offers intensive two-week summer courses in central Oslo.
